Privacy policy
Last updated 10 October 2026.
This policy explains what personal data UK Map Guide collects, why, and your rights under UK data protection law (UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018).
What we collect
- Account details: your name, email address and a securely hashed password.
- Listings: the business details and photos you submit. These are published once approved.
- Reviews, saved listings, claims and messages you send through the site.
- Payments: order records (what you bought, amount, status). Card payments are processed by Stripe; we do not receive your card details.
- Security data: the IP address and country of the connection used to submit listings and forms. New listings are only accepted from UK connections. We use this to stop spam and abuse, and delete IP addresses from listings after 180 days.
- Newsletter: your email address if you subscribe.
Why we use it
To provide the directory and your account (contract), to keep the site free of spam and fraud (legitimate interests), to process payments and keep financial records (contract and legal obligation), and to send the newsletter you asked for (consent, which you can withdraw at any time using the link in each email).
Who we share it with
Our hosting provider, our email delivery provider, Stripe for payments, postcodes.io for checking postcodes and map positions (we send only the postcode or the marker position), and country.is to check which country a listing is submitted from (we send only the IP address). Map images are loaded from our map tile provider, which receives your IP address when the map displays. Some forms use Cloudflare Turnstile to tell people and bots apart. We do not sell personal data.
Cookies and statistics
We use one essential cookie to keep you signed in and protect forms. We don't use advertising cookies.
Visitor statistics. To see which pages are useful, we count visits on our own server without cookies or anything stored on your device. Each visit is counted with an anonymous code that changes every day, so we can't recognise you from one day to the next or identify you. We don't store IP addresses for this. On business pages we also count clicks on phone numbers, websites, email addresses and directions, so owners can see how their listing is doing. To opt out, turn on "Do Not Track" or "Global Privacy Control" in your browser and you won't be counted at all.
How long we keep it
Account data is kept until you delete your account. Order records are kept for six years for accounting purposes. Security logs are kept for up to 180 days. Anonymous visitor statistics are kept for up to 400 days.
Your rights
You can access, correct or delete your data, object to how we use it, or ask for a copy. You can delete your account at any time from Account settings. To exercise any right, email hello@ukmapguide.com. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
